Description

Based in part of H.P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu, this adaptation in set in contemporary Tokyo, Japan where a young journalist named Ichigo Tokimasa who received news of his great uncle's unfortunate passing. As executor of his late uncle's will, Ichigo discovers an austere artifact that resembles a dragon-like creature with a cephalopod head. He also inherits his uncle's journal which he comes across cryptic messages about a sinister cult as well as a number of news articles depicting grisly murders and satanic rituals across the globe. Among the many articles his uncle has collected, an ancient manuscript described a monstrous entity called Cthulhu whom slumbers underneath the bottom of the sea.

Meanwhile on the other side of the world, Godzilla is in what seems to be some deep sleep where he feels much awake. In this dream, Godzilla finds himself inside a monolithic wasteland where he is confronted with disembodied parodies of former rivals such as Ghidorah, Gigan, and other monsters he's faced in the past. As he descends into the catacombs, Godzilla comes face to face with the evil monstrous entity known only as Cthulhu. In this dream, Godzilla is powerless against the ancient beast and is easily defeated. As he is about to greet death, Godzilla awakens with a frightful howl that could be heard throughout the dark corners of the Earth. In a frenzy, Godzilla rampages through the small island of Okinawa, leaving collateral damage in his wake.

Godzilla's sporadic behavior forced the Japanese government to intervene, disposing military forces to Okinawa only to be decimated by the King's atomic breath. It wasn't until the top scientists of Japan discovered something very disturbing about Godzilla. This sudden attack on the small island wasn't done in vain. In fact, it was later revealed that Godzilla was experiencing terrifying hallucinations brought on by a fever dream.

It was later revealed that the attack on Okinawa and the string of violent crimes were somehow connected. And the link to these incidents was none other than Cthulhu.
